This is the link to an article about Dr. Brazelton who, at 88, still reigns king among parenting support. Dr. Brazelton spoke to parents with children with special needs and the professionals working with them in the northwest suburbs of Chicago. His reassuring guidance...
His reassuring guidance helps parents understand behavioral and emotional development in children, providing information, and support is available in the newest revision of the book Touchpoints: Birth to Three-The Essential Reference for the Early Years. Touchpoints, by definition, according to Dr. Brazelton, are "those predictable times that occur just before a surge of rapid growth in any line of development-motor, cognitive, or emotional-when, for a short time, the child's behavior falls apart. Parents can no longer rely on past accomplishments. The child often regresses in several areas and becomes difficult to understand. Parents lose their own balance and become alarmed.....When seen as normal and predictable, these periods of regressive behavior, are opportunities to understand the child more deeply and to support his or her growth, rather than to become locked into a struggle."
What are your thoughts on this? When you stand back and think about your child, do you see a pattern that Dr. Brazelton suggest in your own child? Post your thoughts! I can't wait to read about your experiences!
